Concept Dependency / Co-dependency → Excel + PDF
Select a course, map key concepts, and generate a polished matrix, analytics summary, and dependency graph for review.
Scale: 1 = dependency 0.5 = co-dependency (must be symmetric) 0 = none (default) ? = unsure

Guidance Example Matrix (Calculus I)
Rows = concepts taught; Columns = concepts required (prerequisites). The matrix answers: “To teach the row concept, must students already control the column concept?”
| (Row) Concept taught → | Columns = prerequisite concepts (required before/with the row) | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C1 Algebra & Limit Laws | C2 Limits & Continuity | C3 Derivative Basics | C4 Product/Quotient | C5 Chain Rule | |
| C1 Algebra & Limit Laws | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| C2 Limits & Continuity | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| C3 Derivative Basics | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| C4 Product/Quotient | 0 | 0 | 1 | — | 0.5 |
| C5 Chain Rule | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0.5 | — |
Diagonal entries are “—” (a concept does not depend on itself).
Concepts
Field glossary (Concepts sheet):
- Concept Label: short name (≤ 35 chars) used in matrix headers.
- Short Description: ≤ 120 chars clarifying scope/boundaries.
- Weight (1–3) (optional): 1 = Supporting; 2 = Important; 3 = Central/Gateway.
Matrix guidance (Matrix sheet):
- Cell (row i, col j): “To teach concept i, must students already control concept j?”
- Use 1 (dependency), 0.5 (co-dependency, symmetric), 0 (none), ? (unsure). All off-diagonal cells start at 0.
- Prefer immediate prerequisites; avoid long transitive chains.
Matrix (row = concept being taught; column = prerequisite concept)
Use the dropdowns to choose 0, 1, 0.5, or ?. Selecting 0.5 auto-sets the symmetric cell to 0.5. (Diagonal is “—”.)
